We will explore the legal responsibilities of boards and individual members through a series of stories of practical examples.

· The Table:  A review of board roles and responsibilities. What is it that well-functioning boards do?

· Tim:  A review of individual board member roles, responsibilities, and liability exposure.

· Jane and Julie:  A review of how well-functioning boards interact with each other.

· Village Tom:  A review of how well-functioning boards interact with their administrators, parents, and the public.

· Turkey Day:  A review of the requirement of Wisconsin’s Open Meetings and Public Records laws.”

WRCCS Competencies
  • Governance Board: Legal: Develops/revisits the understanding of the Governance Board's roles and legal responsibilities 
  • Governance Board: Governing Practice: Establishes/refines effective procedures for how the board functions. (ex. set goals and create metrics for measurement, approve budget, create school policies, know local and state charter school laws, and fundraise for the school.)
