Step Into Your Community for Culturally Relevant Learning: Using Siftr to Connect, Explore and Engage in Place-Based Inquiries

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Participants will play with Siftr, a free social media app, to connect with, or develop a sense of place through an authentic inquiry experience. They will make their own Siftr projects to explore the world outside of the classroom by geo-tagging photos and recording field observations using a mobile device. Attendees will learn how teachers, using Siftr, can engage students in meaningful stewardship projects within the local natural and cultural communities. Exemplar Siftr projects will be shared as inspiration for classroom-based applications of the app. Created by K-12 educators, these Siftrs support learning and increase student engagement across multiple content areas including English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Math, and Physical Education. Children’s online safety considerations as well as alternate methods of using Siftr when mobile devices are not available will be shared. A portion of this workshop will be spent outdoors. Please bring your mobile device!
